Tamra Henna, American Belly Dancer
Who is Tamra Henna?
Tamra Henna is me! I began my belly dance journey in 1992 with Z-Helene of Austin, instantly falling in love with the art form and the vibrant belly dancing community. Drawn to the glamour and allure of the “Golden Era” dancers of Egyptian cinema and the excitement of Lebanese, Arab-American, Greek, and Persian nightclub dancers, I have developed a distinctive “pan-Arabic” style, blending influences from various cultures and eras into a dynamic whole.
In 2001, I moved to Dallas, and began performing professionally, entertaining audiences across North Texas at private events, restaurants, nightclubs, and cultural festivals. For over a decade, I served as the lead dancer at the most prestigious Lebanese nightclub in North Texas. I also performed with three award-winning professional dance groups, featured in several belly dance DVDs, and joined the cast of the “Virginia: Reflections” show in 2018.
I began teaching weekly classes in 2005, and then in 2017 I established the “Dallas School of Belly Dance,” a comprehensive program designed to support the development of students from novice dancers into skilled performers. This program has helped several dancers develop into successful professionals, and fostered a community where many have found lifelong friendships and a deep love for belly dance, which is the best outcome I could imagine.
In 2021, after 20 years dancing and teaching in Dallas, I relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio, where I continue to strive for a deeper connection with my audiences, my students, and the culture and peoples who created the dance and music that so enchants me.
I am currently available to teach private lessons and specialty workshops, and for private and public performances. Weekly classes in the Cincinnati area will be announced soon!
